Somatic EMDR

Healing Through the Body—Not Just the Mind

Somatic EMDR blends traditional Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) with a body-based, trauma-informed approach. It helps process not only painful memories, but also stuck emotions, protective patterns, and deeply held beliefs that no longer serve you.

This approach uses bilateral stimulation—gentle rhythmic cues (like tapping, sound, or movement) that alternate between the left and right sides of the body. This helps both sides of the brain communicate, making it easier for the nervous system to process what’s been held onto—whether it's emotional pain, fear, shame, or physical tension.

Grounded in a body-aware, intuitive, and process-oriented style, Somatic EMDR invites us to include the whole body in the healing process. Instead of pushing through, we pause and track what's happening in real time—with compassion and curiosity. This allows your system to lead, showing us what it's ready to release.

A session may include:

  • Identifying a core issue, memory, or belief to work with

  • Using body-based bilateral stimulation to process emotions or sensations

  • Tracking body impulses, images, or feelings as they emerge

  • Supporting protective parts that may arise with grounding and care

  • Allowing space for integration and embodied insight

Somatic EMDR is especially helpful if:

  • You’ve tried talk therapy but still feel stuck in patterns

  • You carry old emotional wounds that feel stored in your body

  • You experience anxiety, PTSD, or panic attacks

  • You experience numbness, dissociation, or chronic tension

  • You’re navigating the effects of past abuse, neglect, or attachment trauma

  • You’re looking for a slower, more embodied, and empowering way to heal

This is not about reliving trauma—it’s about working with what your system is ready to release. It's about reconnecting with your body’s wisdom, and completing what was never given the chance to finish—gently, safely, and in your own time.—it’s about making space for what your system is ready to release. It’s about honouring what your body already knows, and supporting it to complete the cycle of healing, in its own time and way.
